Getting Ready For Your Charter

We have put together some of the most frequently asked questions to ensure you come prepared and can have the best experience possible.  Please do call us should you have any questions not covered below.

What is included in a charter fishing trip?

We provide all the necessary licenses, tackle and gear (with the highest quality electric reels), bait, ice, expert crew & assistance. On return to the pier we will clean and gut your fish, so it’s ready to eat.

What should I bring?

You will need to bring:

  • Lunch, snacks, water & drinks (no glass allowed)
  • Sunscreen & Hat
  • Camera – to capture all the fun and brag to your friends about the monster fish that got away!

If you have any questions regarding what to bring, please call Captain Bucko at +64222782462

What should I wear?

It is important to feel comfortable while onboard – so wear clothing that allows you to move freely and feel relaxed. We strongly recommend boat-friendly footwear, closed-toed sandals or sneakers are best. Flip flops are accepted at your own risk.  Don’t forget your hat, sunscreen and sunglasses.

When deciding what to wear, if in doubt – bring it! Better to be over-prepared than under-prepared and there is plenty of space on deck for extra clothing. Make sure to check the weather in advance so that you’re prepared for the day, whatever the weather!

What time should I arrive?

Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled trip departure time. The boat will arrive back at the docks at the scheduled arrival time.

Where do we meet?

Upon booking your trip and choosing your departure location - you will be provided with directions and a meeting place. If you don’t have this information or are unsure, please call Captain Bucko directly on +64222782462 and he will provide directions.

Will my trip be cancelled because of the weather?

Decisions based on the weather are made the evening prior to departure. If there is no way we will be able to get on the water due to conditions, Captain Bucko will contact you the day prior to your trip. Unfortunately, we cannot make weather calls a week out, due to the local climate being so changeable.

What if I am prone to motion sickness?

If you have experienced motion sickness before or think you may be prone to sea sickness – we recommend you purchase ‘Sea legs’ or some type of seasickness tablet prior to your trip. We highly recommend the product called ‘Paihia Bombs’ which is available at our local Chemist in Paihia.  Please take as directed by the Chemist and/or directions on the product.

What happens after the trip?

Once back at the dock, you can take some time to grab a drink at a local watering hole, or you can wait around while your fish is gutted and cleaned for you, so your day ends with ready to eat fish!

Want to eat your fish right away? Take one of your fish to ‘King Wah’ or ‘The Swordfish Club’ restaurants and for a small surcharge they will prepare your fish just for you - from Ocean to table, you cant get fresher than that!
